The numbers on the blocks indicate the number of bombs touching the neighboring empty cell.

On the windows version the bomb tiles frequently get marked with a number, rendering the game unsolvable and thus unplayable.

The numbers on the block are not the number of bombs touching that block. They relate to the number of bombs touching the cleared block that would touch that face.
